Art as a form of care, Shelley Vanderbyl creates tiny oil paintings in vintage medicine tins and vast frescoes that speak of breakage and repair, scars and healing. The themes of emotional and physical healing stem from her experiences as a cancer survivor and military wife. Her work is in corporate, private and hospital collections around the world and was presented to Prince Edward and Lady Sophie in 2018. Exploring the use of art to deliver messages of comfort, she asks the question, "If what someone sees can break a person, can an image heal them?"
